Q: I have applied for the Graduate Program, when will I be contacted?
A: After applications for the 2011 intake close in April 2010 the Graduate Recruitment Team will review all applications and shortlist successful candidates.
 
Within the next five working days the team will contact successful candidates via email inviting them to the next stage of assessment, and advising unsuccessful applicants.
 
Q: How will I know you’ve received my application?
A: After you have applied, you will receive a confirmation email acknowledging the receipt of your application.
 
Q: Is it possible to update my details once they have been submitted?
A: It is possible to update any information which you have included in your application form throughout the recruitment process. Please ensure you keep your username and password in a safe place so you can access your application at any stage.
 
Q: I can’t remember my username or password, what can I do?
A: If you have forgotten your username and password you can retrieve these details from the application site. Simply click “Forgot your username” or “Forgot your password” and an email with these details will be sent to your account.
 
Q: Can I apply for the 2011 Graduate Program if I applied for the 2010 Graduate Program?
A: Yes, applicants are eligible to apply for the Qantas Graduate Program again the following year. Graduates should have completed their studies between January 2008 and December 2010.
 
Q: Can international students apply for the Qantas Graduate Program?
A: Yes, however, applications will only be accepted from applicants who already hold Australian permanent residency or citizenship.
 
Q: Can Qantas sponsor me for a work visa or to become a permanent resident?
A: One of the conditions of eligibility is that you be eligible to work in Australia.
 
Q: When does the Qantas Graduate Development Program commence?
A: Successful applicants to the Qantas Graduate Development Program will start in February 2011.
 
Q: If I have majors in more than one stream offered in the Graduate Program, can I apply for more than disciplines?
A: In your online application you will be asked to apply to one stream only. However, should you be successful, Qantas will consult with you on which stream best fits your skills set and interests.
 
Q: Is it considered an advantage to have post graduate qualifications or a double degree?
A: Applicants are assessed against a range of areas including academic achievement, work experience, extra curricular activities as well as skills and capabilities. Qantas is looking for well-rounded applicants.
 
Q: Can applicants change the date/time for their face to face interview or psychometric assessment if they cannot attend the dates/times provided by Qantas? 
A: Applicants are given a range of options when selecting times for assessments and/or interviews. As the timeline for the recruitment process is strict, it is important that the applicant chooses the most suitable time as changes afterwards are not possible.
 
Q: Where will the graduate positions be located?
A: All offers will be based at the Qantas offices in Mascot, Sydney. You must be willing to relocate to Sydney to be eligible for a graduate position.
 
Q: Does Qantas offer relocation assistance?
A: Qantas will provide basic relocation assistance to successful interstate applicants while they are looking for permanent accommodation.
 
Q: Will Qantas support my graduate training?
A: Yes, this is generally done during work hours and will encompass the following:
  • Formal training through scheduled group development days, including a series of formal classroom sessions, practical and theoretical business workshops and tours unique to the aviation industry.
  • Ongoing workplace coaching via performance discussions, and related development planning, plus one on one mentoring from an experienced manager.
  • Continued support of a Stream Manager who will guide your development and facilitate your rotations throughout the various business units in consultation with our business leaders.
  • On-the-job training as you progress through each of the 6 month rotations.
  • Finance graduates are fully sponsored (for example, fees, study leave and some access to course materials) to complete the CA or CPA program.

Q: What types of rotations are there?
A: Rotations are administered throughout all areas of the business including our flying and non-flying areas. All of these rotations will provide you with the opportunity to develop upon your skill set and knowledge of the business.

Q: Will I be able to work overseas or in other states within Australia?
A: There is a possibility for overseas and interstate rotations, however, this is based strictly on business needs and requirements. The first rotation is usually based in Mascot, Sydney.
 
Q: What are my job prospects after the program?
A: All Qantas graduates come off the program into full time positions. Throughout your rotations you will be given the opportunity to experience several of Qantas’ diverse business units. In consultation with your stream manager we will align your skills and interests with a permanent position.
 
Q: How long is the program and can I finish the program earlier than two years?
A: The program consists of 4, six-month rotations. These rotations are designed to broaden your skills, knowledge and networks by enhancing your business acumen, building your leadership and management capabilities and strengthening your practical and theoretical understanding of the aviation industry.
