Important Considerations

It’s a big first step in your career so please be aware that an apprenticeship is not entered into lightly. Please carefully consider these key points:

Safety

In the airline industry, safety is paramount. Work is therefore painstaking and precise, and in some instances may be repetitious.

Working Conditions

You can be required to work in confined spaces for periods of time and additionally you may have to work at heights or in all weather conditions carrying out maintenance tasks (appropriate training is provided).

Choose your trade carefully

You cannot change your trade once your apprenticeship has commenced so please consider your choice carefully before making your application.

Shift work

As part of the transport industry, Qantas operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, therefore shift work may be required. Before applying, please carefully consider your attitude to shift work and its effect on your interests and lifestyle in the future.

Aircraft Maintenance Engineer licences

The apprenticeships that provide the experience that may lead to aircraft maintenance engineer licences are: Aircraft Maintenance Engineer-Mechanical and Aircraft Maintenance Engineer-Avionics. Licensed positions (LAME) are subject to vacancy and selection is based on performance and qualifications.

Roles post apprenticeship

Not all apprentices will, at the completion of their apprenticeship, be involved directly with work on aircraft. Most will be involved in the repair or overhaul of aircraft components in various workshops.

Qantas is moving into the 21st century with the introduction of new aircraft from Boeing and Airbus bringing with them improved levels of service and technology and with that new and exciting career scenarios. Are you up to the challenge?
